Hillside Discipleship Church is a community of believers dedicated to following Christ and making disciples. We believe in the transformative power of God's love and seek to share it with our community and beyond.

Meet Our Pastors

Pastor Todd Petty

Lead Pastor

Todd Petty returned to his home town of Lapeer in Sept. 09 after pastoring a church in Slidell Louisiana where he focused on rebuilding after Hurricane Katrina. While in Louisiana he partnered with the International Disaster Emergency Services (IDES) to do follow up ministry as they built 36 homes. He also serves as the Chairman of the Board for the Gulf South Leadership Institute, an organization that trains local leaders for ministry in the Greater New Orleans area.

In Lapeer he uses the lessons learned about discipleship, service and outreach to see the life changing power of the Gospel. He grew up here in Lapeer and attended Great Lakes Christian College in Lansing. Todd is married to his beautiful wife Kandi, and they have three children.

Pastor Stephen Spencer

Youth Pastor

Stephen Spencer spent his formative years in the ministry serving at Lake Ann Camp in Northern Michigan. It was there that he met his wife Bethany and got his calling to ministry. After studying at Moody Bible Institute in Spokane, Washington, Stephen and Bethany led various ministries as laypeople.

The Covid Lockdown sent the Spencer family looking for a new home church. It was then that they found Hillside Discipleship Church and began serving. What started as a part time internship building the youth and children’s ministries grew into a larger calling to match the larger needs.

Stephen now serves as a Pastor at Hillside focusing his time on administration and family discipleship. He attends and serves with Bethany and their six children.

Pastor Justin Grochowalski

Discipleship & Community Outreach

Justin Grochowalski grew up in Wyoming, Michigan and after high school worked for 6 years in Holland, Michigan at a company called Request Foods. It was during that time that Justin committed his life to Jesus Christ and began to seek out what the Lord had for His life.

In 2015, Justin began attending Great Lakes Christian College where he graduated with a Bachelors in Christian Theology and Church Planting. After college, Justin served at Riverside Church in the Big Rapids area before coming to Hillside in October of 2024. Justin is married to his wonderful wife Corrie, and they have two children together, Hope and Isaiah.
